  Desert Places

by: Chuck Bannister

I understand you enjoy
Hearing words from my heart
Sometimes putting them together
Is the most difficult part

Is it because I’m away
And my thoughts are diffused
Or because in my spirit I feel broken
Alone…bewildered and confused

Being apart from you and Kinsey
Causes my heart deep pain
I cry out before God
LORD show me…PLEASE, JUST EXPLAIN

Then He whispers to my spirit
“Explanation MY son,” the journey itself will bring
And at the end of your travels
A NEW song your hearts will sing

You see there are times in your life
When I just have to get you alone
To break your heart’s hardened ground
To draw you closer to my throne

But, God my heart isn’t hard
I hear your spirit cry and moan
But I can see those deep hidden places
Where you and I need to spend some time alone

Then it occurs to me
Even when life seems to be so right
Our Father has to draw us aside
To help refocus our sight

For the routines of life itself
Innocently cause our spiritual vision to blur
So God gently leads us into our desert
Where alone with HIM our spirit He can stir

One literally in a desert
Fighting heat, dust and sand
Another in the comforts of home
Yet feeling like she’s in a dry, barren land

Though we’re separated from each other darling
Walking alone in these weary lands
Let’s be sensitive and listen
While we rest in the PALM OF HIS HANDS!
